Warden Messages

September 29, 2004

U.S. Consulate General Nigeria has received reports of violence in the Port Harcourt region resulting in several deaths of Nigerian nationals and heightened security concerns. The security situation is unpredictable. It is possible that violence may continue. Consequently, The U. S. Consulate recommends that travel to the Port Harcourt area be suspended until the security situation becomes clearer.

American citizens living in or near Port Harcourt should maintain ample supplies on hand to sustain themselves for several days. American citizens should take appropriate security precautions, keep a low profile, and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation stabilizes. Travel at night should be avoided.

American citizens may report specific incidences of targeted violence to the U.S. Embassy in Abuja: Tel: 09-523-8001; Fax: 09-523-2078, or the U.S. Consulate in Lagos at Tel: 01-261-0195, 01-261-1215; Fax: 01-261-2218.
