The U.S. Mission has learned that some groups intend to hold public gatherings in Lagos, Abuja and other cities on May 1 in response to the recent elections held in Nigeria.   We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly result in some violence. American citizens are therefore urged minimize their travel on May 1 and to avoid large public gathering and demonstrations and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. 

We continue to advise all Americans to review their security procedures, remain vigilant to their surroundings, and report specific incidences of targeted violence to the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U. S. Consulate General in Lagos at the numbers below.
