Warden Messages

Updating American Citizens Registration

January 28, 2009

The following message is being issued jointly by the U.S. Embassy Abuja and
U.S. Consulate General Lagos for American citizens in Nigeria.

The most important function of U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas is to protect, assist and inform American citizens traveling or residing abroad. One of the key ways we do this is by providing information on a variety of issues to American citizens in Nigeria through our warden network. These Americans volunteer to assist their fellow citizens by helping us ensure messages of interest reach the American community in Nigeria. We are always interested in working with American citizens who would like to help their fellow citizens abroad stay safe and informed by serving as a warden with the U.S. Mission to Nigeria.

The U.S. Mission seeks to maintain current contact information for American citizens in country to ensure that we can provide them with important information specific to Americans overseas in a timely and effective manner.  To register with the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, please go on-line to http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/tips/registration/registration_1186.html to enter or update your information; include an email address where you can be reached if possible. By registering on-line, you can update your information any time, at your convenience. Please consult the attached map to determine which location has responsibility for your consular district. If you have any questions about registration, do not have access to the Internet or are interested in serving as a Warden in your area, please contact us at either ConsularAbuja@state.gov / telephone (9) 461-4000 or at LagosACS@state.gov /telephone (1) 460-3600. By way of this message, we also ask current Wardens to distribute this message as widely as possible to all American citizens in your warden zone.

We request that American citizens review and update their registration with the U.S. Mission in Nigeria as soon as travel arrangements are made.  Thank you.
