September 21, 2007
Good Morning. It is a pleasure to be here today in Bauchi. I have traveled to Bauchi to meet His Excellency Governor Isa Yuguda, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, and to pay a courtesy call on His Eminence the Emir of Bauchi. I have also met other local dignitaries and friends and hosted an Iftaar dinner. I have come to pay my respects as a friend and to listen to people of Bauchi State.
Tuesday September 18 I was in Maiduguri to commission an American Corner collection at the University of Maiduguri.
The American Corner in Bauchi located in the Professor Iya Abubakar Community Resource Center, State Library Complex was commissioned last year and I visited the Community Resource Center earlier this morning to tour the facilities.
While in Maiduguri I also donated eight sets of school books to schools in Maiduguri as we did in Bauchi last June.
On Thursday September 20 I donated sets of school books to four schools in Gombe.
Today it is my great pleasure to be here in Bauchi, to meet the governor and other prominent citizens and old friends of the U.S. Embassy
I also want to briefly mention that during the past few years the U.S. Embassy has sent several citizens of Bauchi to the U.S. for specialized training.
For the United States, these projects and programs reflect the desire to help others pull themselves up by their boot straps as so many enterprising Americans have done in the past. The programs also represent a strong and growing partnership between the people of Bauchi State and the American people – that is, investing in our common future.
Finally, I would like to wish the people of Bauchi State a Ramadan Kareem.
