Speeches

Ambassador John Campbell
Remarks
Reception Given by the Governor of Bauchi State

April 5, 2006, 8:00 p.m.
Bauchi

Your Excellencies.

Distinguished Guests; All Protocols Observed.

Your Excellencies, thank you for hosting me this evening.

It is a great pleasure to be here and to meet your guests.

I came to Bauchi to this week to inaugurate our Shared Futures Program, to Commission an American Corner, to inspect a USAID funded health facility and to view several Bauchi State projects.

The essence of my visit to Bauchi is partnership - the partnership between the people of the United States and the people of Bauchi State. This partnership has been going on for some years but as the Hausa proverb says, "Friendship is in the feet."

I have heard so many wonderful things about Bauchi. But to quote from another Hausa proverb: "Seeing is better than hearing."

And this week I have already seen so much that tells me that there are great things happening in Bauchi and that the partnership between the people of Bauchi State and America is still strong.

[Reflect on observations here.]

Your Excellency, it has truly been an honor to be your guest in Bauchi this week.

I thank you, my staff thanks you and the American people thank you.
