The U.S. Embassy Abuja Ramadan lecture series aimed at promoting dialogue with Muslim communities, and a feeding program to help the poor and underprivileged Muslims manage their fasting began Tuesday, September 26 at the University of Abuja.
The lecture entitled “Achieving A Dialogue of Civilizations” was jointly organized by the U.S. Embassy, Al-Habibiyyah Academy, and the University of Abuja Muslim Students’ Society.
Ms. Rabia Qureshi, U.S. Embassy’s Political Officer, accompanied by the Cultural Affairs Officer Shirley Lisenby, related her experience as an American and a Muslim and said the choice of a university to expound upon and examine the notion of a “dialogue of civilizations” underlines the significance and indispensability of universities as mechanisms through which we challenge assumptions, confront differences of opinion, and hopefully, seek to find common ground and understanding.
