On June 1, Consulate General Lagos welcomed twenty American citizen Wardens from throughout the consular district to discuss communication with and assistance to American citizens in Nigeria. The Wardens are a network of American citizens living and working in Nigeria who volunteer their time and local knowledge to help the U.S. Mission in Nigeria reach American citizens in case of emergency, disaster or threat, and to pass on other information of interest to the U.S. citizen community. The Wardens met with Consul General Donna Blair and Consular Section Chief Richard Walsh, and received briefings on security and Mission activities to deepen U.S.-Nigerian relations in political, economic, educational and cultural areas.
Lagos’ network includes relatively new Wardens and others who have done it for 25, 35, even 45 years. Together, Lagos Wardens have over 100 years of service to the American community in Nigeria! The meeting gave veteran and novice Wardens the opportunity to meet each other and exchange ideas for how to strengthen communication between the Consulate General and private American citizens. At a luncheon with Consulate General staff Consul General Blair presented each Warden with a certificate of appreciation for their dedication and invaluable service to “Team Nigeria.”
