More than 300 women from various occupations learned new skills on business development as applied through bead making and marketing during a one day business skill development workshop hosted by U.S. micro- enterprises development specialist Elaine Robnett Moore.
Four other speakers, including Tosin Dokpesi, Executive Director Daar Communications Plc; Nneka Adogu, Executive Director Access Bank Plc; and Ezinwa Okoroafor, Vice President FIDA, Nigeria also participated in the discussion.
Ms Moore is in Nigeria as part of a U.S. government speaker program on developing women in business. The May 19 program was organized in partnership with the Law, Media and Development Initiative; Agbaje, Agbaje and Company; and the National Center for Women Development, Abuja.
In her welcome address, U.S. Mission Country Public Affairs Officer Atim George said an opportunity such as this gives women the chance to learn how to grow their businesses and to network with one another.
During the interactive session, Ms. Moore advised the workshop participants to start small and then grow big stressing that, “You don’t need to have a lot of money to start a business , but you definitely need a lot of creativity to start a business and integrity to stay in business.”
The workshop was a catalyst for women who wanted to display beautifully made beads and other locally manufactured products for sale to the public.
