U.S Government Donates Personal Protective Equipments to Federal Government of Nigeria for Avian Influenza Containment

Shortly after the Government of Nigeria confirmed on Wednesday, February 8th, that bird samples from a commercial layers unit in northern Nigeria tested positive to H5N1 influenza, the U.S. government announced $25 million in technical assistance to Nigeria as well as a donation of 2,000 protective gear to help stem the spread of the disease.
On Tuesday, February 14, the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Thomas P. Furey presented samples of the donated gear to the Honorable Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Adamu Bello. Minister Bello said the U.S. quick response and fulfillment of pledge has demonstrated strong U.S. partnership with Nigeria to contain the Avian Influenza.
