The American Corner Port Harcourt, located in the Center for Advanced Social Sciences, organized a program to celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Robin Renee Sanders and the U.S. Agency for International Development Mission Director Sharon Cromer.
Guest speaker Dr. Ukiwo Ukoha noted in his speech that, “his work lives on after him. Today we celebrate his life of service. He served at the grassroots and valued the contributions of ordinary people in the struggle for change. We celebrate a life of selfless leadership so much in high demand in this generation and in our nation, Nigeria.”
American Corner Coordinator Blessing Agiobu said the program had a very great impact on the participants and that they related the theme to events in the Niger Delta.
Ambassador Sanders took the opportunity to say that the US Government was willing to partner with the government and people of the Niger Delta to facilitate the development of the region.
