U.S. Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Expert to Conduct Training Sessions in Nigeria

Dr. Fellina Nwadike, a U.S.-based peace building and conflict resolution expert has been awarded a six-week grant to conduct training sessions on peace building mechanisms and conflict resolution in Nigeria.   Under the Fulbright Specialists Program, Fellina Nwadike, who is Associate Professor of Speech Communication at Coppin State University in Baltimore, will be visiting Nigeria October 10 through November 22, 2008.

While in Abuja and Sokoto, Professor Nwadike will train lawyers, judges, magistrates, and law students on alternative dispute resolution methodologies and best practices.   In addition, she is expected to provide training on effective communication and listening skills, which are essential in the mediation process.  These training sessions will be conducted in collaboration with Settlement House, a dispute resolution center in Abuja, and Usmanu Danfodiyo University’s Center for Peace Studies in Sokoto.

Dr. Nwadike’s travel to Nigeria is part of the U.S. Mission to Nigeria’s activities in investing in people and promoting peace and security in Nigeria.   

Designed to provide short-term academic opportunities for U.S. faculty and professionals, the Fulbright Specialists Program is one of several Fulbright initiatives administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).  Under this program, grantees have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting activities including human resource and curriculum development.
