US Embassy Host Traveling Exhibition

The Public Affairs Section, US Embassy Abuja, will host a traveling exhibit titled: “Forgotten Roots: Muslims in Early America” between Saturday, September 29 and Monday, October 1, 2007. Mr. Amir Muhammad, the co-founder, president, and curator of Collections & Stories of American Muslims, Inc. (Traveling Exhibit, Archives, & Museum), (CSAM), will collaborate with the Embassy on this important and interesting exhibit. The Abuja Muslim Forum, the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Abuja and the FCT Department of Arts and Culture will also join forces to ensure the success of the display.
The traveling exhibition is supervised by Mr. Muhammad, an accomplished and noted researcher, historian, writer, and poet whose works have gained him international recognition. He is one of the foremost historians and researchers of the Islamic experience in the United States and a leading activist in developing national awareness of the Islamic experience in America. Mr. Muhammad is a well known author who has written several books and published many articles for national magazines and newspapers.
Other activities during the three day exhibition include a lecture on Muslims in Early America to be delivered by Amir Muhammad, on Saturday, September 29, at the FCT Cultural Center, Abuja at 10:30am. The Minister of State, Ministry of Information and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki S. Nakande will be the Special Guest of Honor and will declare the exhibition open, while the Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy will deliver remarks.
On Sunday, September 30, there will be a roundtable discussion on the topic “Ramadan and Global Peace” at the National Press Center, Radio House, Area 10, Garki Abuja at 11:00am. Lead discussants at the roundtable are Dr. Abdulazeez Tawfeeq of the Department of Political Science, University of Abuja, Abdulfattah Adeyemi and Amir Muhammad.
