A Condolence Message to The Kano Muslim Community on The Death Of Sheik Ja’afar Adam

Friday, April 13, 2007

Abuja – Nigeria: The U.S. Embassy received with concern, the report of the death of Sheikh Ja’afar Adam and two other innocent worshipers, who were shot at the Usman Ibn Affan Mosque in Kano, by unidentified gunmen, during the Subhi prayers on Friday, April 13, 2007.

Sheikh Ja’afar Adam reportedly died at the Kano Teaching Hospital, while the other victims of the shooting were killed instantly at the Mosque.

We condemn violence which in any circumstance is unacceptable, but especially on the eve of one of the most important elections in Nigeria’s history.  We look forward to the perpetrators of this crime being quickly apprehended and brought to Justice.

The Embassy community extends its condolences and sympathy to the Kano Muslim community, and the families of Sheikh Ja’afar Adam and the other victims of this violent crime.
