U.S. Citizen Services

The American Citizen Services (ACS) section of the Consular Section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Nigeria. American Citizens Services are offered at the Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate in Lagos.  Each has different service hours.

 

Important Security Announcement
Please do not bring mobile phones or any electronic devices as they are not allowed within the Embassy. We also strongly advise that you do not bring large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases or packages to the interview as there are no storage facilities on Embassy grounds.
Only person(s) seeking consular services will be admitted into the Embassy. Exceptions will be made only if those seeking consular services are under 18, or if they are disabled and require assistance.

Hours of Operation

Abuja

American Citizen Services hours:

Service is offered on a “first come first served” basis, no appointment is necessary.  All services are performed during hours of operation.

Monday – Thursday from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, no appointment necessary.

Friday from 8:00am – 11:00am, no appointment necessary.

Please note, the Embassy is closed to the public for American and Nigerian holidays, and the last Friday of every month.

If you are an American citizen and require emergency assistance, please dial 09-461-4000.

Inquiries regarding visas or consular services should be addressed to ConsularAbuja@state.gov.

Lagos:

American Citizen Services hours:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:30-11am for passport applicants.

Tuesday, Thursday: 7:30-11am for Reports of Birth.

Monday-Friday: 7:30-11am for notary services and passport services.

Please note, the Embassy is closed to the public for American and Nigerian holidays, and the last Friday of every month.

Visa inquiries should be addressed to lagoscons2@state.gov and cannot be answered by the American Services section.

- Travel to Nigeria -
A visa is required to enter Nigeria.  It is not possible to obtain one at the port of entry so travelers should apply well in advance at a Nigerian Embassy or Consulate.
